Welcome to Jewish University for a Day!

Ambassador Dennis Ross at the 2024 Jewish University speaking on the future of Israel and the Middle East

Jewish University for a Day is an annual event at Stony Brook University on Long Island that brings together leading authors, academics, rabbis, public figures, journalists and others in a day-long series of mini-courses and presentations centered around Jewish themes. The event, sponsored by Stony Brook Hillel, is now entering its 14th year and has drawn in hundreds of attendees over the years.

This year’s presenters include Rabbi Angela Buchdahl and Abigail Pogrebin on the powers of Jewish Joy, Dr. Susannah Heschel — the daughter of Abraham Joshua Heschel — on her scholarly work about Judaism and Islam, a panel discussion about the efficacy of Holocaust education in schools, a deep dive into Judaism and the Afterlife, and an updated look at the prospects for peace or war in the Middle East.

We're excited to host this year's JU in the university's newly-refurbished Student Union which also serves as the new home of the campus Hillel, and which includes convenient free parking adjacent to the building and university security.

Many thanks to the 2025 Jewish University Planning Committee:
